Candace's Movie Reviews

Welcome to Candace’s home on Confessions of a Pop Culture Addict!  You may know her as PCA’s site manager and an avid Jordan Knight fan, but for many years she has also written movie reviews with her own unique rating system.  You can find her other work and portfolio at candaceshaw.ca; If you’d like to send her feedback, please visit the Contact page.

The ‘Fork’ rating system works like this:  Candace gives a movie a fork for every time she wants to stab herself in the eye with a fork while watching a movie.  For instance, the movie 300 got 0 forks, while Marie Antoinette got 10 forks.  Often scathing, sometimes hilarious, Candace’s movie reviews are often peppered with cuss-words that’d make your momma’s hair curl. So think about that before you click on any links; if you write a complain-y email about language, we’ll all have a good laugh at your expense.

Twilight: New Moon – How to Deal With It

Candace was originally going to write a review, but figured it would be like shooting fish in a barrel to make fun of a film so many other people were doing such a capable job of making fun of.  Instead, she offers advice for parents on talking to their kids after watching these films, and suggests some further viewing to counteract the lame stereotypes of male-female interactions that you find in them

Watchmen – Who’s Watching Dr. Manhattan’s Wang?

Candace reviews the adaptation of beloved and seminal graphic novel, Watchmen (which yes, she has read, thanks).  The real star of the show is Rorschach, but she makes note that Dr. Manhattan’s wang really captures every scene it appears in.  We don’t know who’s watching the Watchmen, but it turns out we’re all watching Dr. Manhattan’s wang.  And kids, that’s entertainment!

The Reader, Changeling – One good, one bad

Candace talks about two recent films, featuring two strong, skilled actresses, with equally fascinating storylines but enormously different impacts.

Speed Racer -  Go Wachowskis, Go!

Candace reviews a movie which she thought she’d hate, but decided to watch anyway to appease Sam and Brendon, who swore up and down that it was an awesome movie.  And guess what?  They were right!
